What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a treatment that’s done by a professional, who uses a surgical scalpel to gently scrape away dead skin and vellus hair (aka peach fuzz) from the skin’s surface. Since this is done with a scalpel rather than a razor, the sloughing goes deeper than you’re able to achieve at home, which is why it is done in office

This is a universal exfoliating option for most skin types. Since the service removes the top layer of dead skin, it also has been known to improve the absorption of skin care products and is one of our favorite add on services- try adding it to a Hydrafaical!

What are the pros and cons of dermaplaning?

Pros:

  • Dermaplaning is relatively inexpensive. A Dermaplaning Facial at Rejuvenations is $95, but if treated as an “add on” it is $50.

  • It’s quick and painless, with minimal to no downtime afterward.

  • It’s appropriate for most skin types, unless you have an active acne or rosacea flare-up.

  • Dermaplaning may help prevent breakouts, since removing the vellus hair can reduce the accumulation of acne-causing bacteria.

Cons:

  • Results are temporary, we recommend coming in every 4-5 weeks.

  • If you have an active acne, or rosacea flare-up, dermaplaning may not be a good option.

  • Although excess oil is removed prior to dermaplaning, the treatment can be less effective on overly oily skin, since the blade can’t properly catch the vellus hairs.
